Carroll: Cole 'out of line'; McNabb unclaimed

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll may be without his starting left tackle for awhile, and he's not happy about it.

Russell Okung suffered a pectoral injury with 1:57 left in Thursday night's game. Okung was blocking Trent Cole on a run play, which went to the other side. After the whistle blew, Cole tossed Okung to the ground. There was no flag on the play.

Today, according to the AP, Carroll said the play was "really late and it was really out of line."

When asked if it was a dirty play, Carroll said it was "a bad play."

"He got thrown down after the whistle, really blatantly," Carroll told the team's Web site. "Stuff like that happens in the game sometimes, but this was most unfortunate because he was damaged by it."

To be honest, I think that's a fair assessment. The Eagles have been involved in quite a few after-the-whistle scuffles this season. I don't think Cole meant to injure Okung. It's not like he took out his knees or anything. But at the same time, it did appear that Okung let up on the play, and Cole flung him after the whistle.

There's no official word on Okung's injury, but Carroll said today he has "extensive damange" to his pectoral muscle.

MCNABB GOES UNCLAIMED

Donovan McNabb is an unrestricted free agent.

The 4 p.m. deadline came and went Friday afternoon, and no team claimed the veteran quarterback.

He is now an unrestricted free agent. Any team in the NFL can sign him to whatever salary they agree on. Or McNabb could spend the rest of the season at home. It would be quite telling if the Bears and Texans decided to go with Caleb Hanie and T.J. Yates, respectively, as they head towards the postseason. But that seems like a real possibility.

"I think there are a lot of teams out there who are in desperate need of a quarterback at this particular point, who are surrounded by veteran players, and teams that play well together," McNabb said during a SportsCenter interview yesterday.

But so far, there are no takers.
