CB Rogers wouldn't mind joining Eagles
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
We all know that Nnamdi Asomugha will be the crown jewel of this year's free-agent class.
But beyond Asomugha, which cornerbacks will be available?
One name in the discussion is Carlos Rogers (6-0, 199), the veteran corner who has spent six seasons with the Redskins since they drafted him with the ninth overall pick in the 2005 draft.
Rogers, who turns 30 in July, doesn't sound like a guy expecting to be back with the 'Skins.
"I ain't never discounting the Redskins, but my mindset right now is that it’s time for a change," he told David Elfin of 106.7 The Fan. "I don’t think I’ve been as appreciated as I should be in that organization, not by everybody. I’ve always been the No. 2 corner, but I’m the one they put on a guy they want to shut down. I just don’t have the interceptions like (current fellow starting corner DeAngelo Hall) has and Shawn (Springs, Hall’s predecessor) used to have."
So where does Rogers want to play next season? He wouldn't mind sticking it to the Redskins and joining the Eagles or the Cowboys.
"My agent’s real confident that I’m going to get a good contract," Rogers said. "After [Oakland’s Nnamdi Asomugha], who’s going to get real big money, I’m the next corner out there. You hear that the Cowboys and Eagles are looking for a corner. It would be fun to play against the Redskins twice a year."
Of course, it remains to be seen whether teams agree with Rogers' evaluation that he's the second-best free-agent corner on the market.
Meanwhile, Adam Schefter has speculated for weeks that the bidding war for Asomugha could be between the Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys.
So which team needs the most help with its pass defense? Here are some numbers:
| Opp. QB Rating | Opp. Comp. % | Opp. 20+ plays | FO Ranking | |
| Eagles | 80.8 (11th) | 57.6% (8th) | 54 (24th) | 11th |
| Redskins | 89.6 (24th) | 63.5 (23rd) | 57 (28th) | 27th |
| Cowboys | 92.8 (29th) | 64.4 (26th) | 57 (28th) | 28th |
Surprised? In just about every category, the Redskins and Cowboys were significantly worse than the Eagles. The only category where it's close is pass plays allowed of 20 yards or more. The final column is pass defense ranking by Football Outsiders.
The Cowboys drafted Buffalo cornerback Josh Thomas in the fifth round. The Redskins added Boise State's Brandyn Thompson in the seventh.
The Eagles picked up Utah State corner Curtis Marsh in the third.
But the point remains the same. All three teams will be looking for a major upgrade at cornerback once moves are allowed to be made.

Our corners aren't as bad as some make them out to be. Asante Samuel is right there with Revis and only Asomugha is better than those two.
Hanson isn't bad at all. D. Patterson, however, stinks.
Rogers, I'm not particularly interested in. ICDogg
I don't care that Asomugha is 30. He's the best corner in the league. No one wants to throw his way and when they do, they aren't often successful. I am totally convinced that there is no better thing the Eagles can do to improve their Super Bowl prospects for the coming few years than to do what it takes to sign Asomugha. ICDogg
Considering he was on that awful Redskin defense last year, how would he make the Eagles better. There were games last season he was healthy enough to play in, but didn't so there wouldn't be any bad tape on him. WVEagle
@crohnkiller - "the front seven is more important han DB" That is a ludicrous statement. Cornerback and Defensive End are the most important positions on defense. If you don't believe me then check out the average salary for the league for all defensive positions and it will tell yuo whatb the league values.(Hint: It ain't LB) UncleStosh- All he had to do is tell the Eagles he blew out his knee last season, they'd sign him in a minute. Just what the Eagles need...another dud cornerback. I have a kid who just finished freshmen high school football last year, he's available if they are that desparate to waste money. He's as good as Rodgers. dapmman
