Burress going to jail

Plaxico Burress pled guilty today to a weapons charge and agreed to a two-year prison term for shooting himself in a Manhattan nightclub last November.

The sentence could be reduced to 20 months for good behavior.

Burress will be 34 years old when he is released from prison. On the field, he'll be best known for making the game-winning reception in the Giants' Super Bowl win over the Patriots in 2007. More impressive, though, was probably his NFC championship game performance in which Burress caught 11 balls for 151 yards in New York's overtime win over the Packers.

He had quite a bit of success against the Eagles over the years. With the Giants from 2005-2008, Burress played against the Birds eight times. He averaged four catches for 81 yards and had seven touchdowns in those games.

The Eagles had a particularly tough time against him in 2006. Burress had 12 catches for 234 yards during two regular-season games and scored two touchdowns in a playoff loss to Jeff Garcia and company.

Items like this generally tend to get quite a few comments, but I'll get the ball rolling.

Is the punishment too severe, not severe enough or just right?

As a point of comparison with other prominent players who recently were imprisoned:

** Michael Vick served 18 months after being sentenced to 23 for dogfighting.

** Donte Stallworth was sentenced to 30 days after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter.

Earlier today, we posted Randall Cunningham's take on the Vick signing.

And later today we'll have what to look for in tonight's Eagles-Colts game. Plus the in-game chat at 8 p.m.
