Buehrle hoped for a Vick injury
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Not everyone is going to forgive Michael Vick.
I'm sure the Eagles' quarterback is well aware of that.
But he'd probably be surprised to hear what fellow professional athlete Mark Buehrle had to say about him during a recent interview.
Buehrle, a veteran pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, was interviewed by Scott Merkin of MLB.com, discussing he and his wife's love for dogs and their roles as animal-rights advocates.
In the original version of the story (per Yahoo Sports' David Brown), Buehrle offered this take on Vick.
"Even if you are not a dog lover, how can you sit there and make two dogs fight and one is going to die?" said Buehrle. "How could you do that if you are somewhat sane?
"[Vick] had a great year and a great comeback, but there were times where we watched the game and I know it's bad to say, but there were times where we hope he gets hurt. Everything you've done to these dogs, something bad needs to happen to these guys."
While those quotes no longer appear in the story, they are still available on Merkin's Twitter account.
Earlier Tuesday, I posted on the Eagles' spending and checked out some mock drafts.

- I abhor Michael Vick for what he did. But I don't wish injury on him. I don't think more of animals than I do people, but I do think more of animals than I do of Michael Vick. People have free will and the ability to make their own decisions. Therefore we judge them, as Dr. King said, on the content of their character. Dogs are at the mercy of their owners, and Michael Vick showed NO mercy. Therefore, even though I don't wish injury on Vick, I understand those that do. Wishing injury is a lot different than taking a dog and putting electrodes on it's ears and throwing in a kiddie pool and electrocuting it (like Vick did). Get some common sense. Wishing you could rob a bank and get the money is a lot different than actually robbing one.
This is just a completely ignorant statement by Buehrle. And it demonstrated a lack of intellegence. I would never condone dog fighting. I would never be a part of it or befriend anyone who is. I also don't think Mike Vick is the best of people. However, you have to know that dog fighting, while rather gross to much of this country, is an accepted thing in parts of the world & parts of the United States. And consider, these dogs that do fight are breeded to do this. They are like wolves or wild animals. These dogs would kill you Mark Beuhrle if they weren't in a cage. In other words, you cousin's pug or grandmas poddle isn't in the cage fighting til death. FetchDixon
Amazing the continued discussions about these dogs...................Really. I might be understandable if animal abuse and dogfighting weren't something that goes on all of the time, even before Michael Vick was born and continues to this day. But it didn't become a issue until Michael Vick. To sit and wish harm on another person is disgusting to say the least, and you people have the nerve to think that you are better.............really. I know Philidelphia has a huge problem with animal abuse and dogfighting, you had this problem long before Vick came to town, I am curious why weren't you speaking out about it before, and why do you even have the problem, knowing that there are all of these passionate people in your city. Your crime rate is ridiculous, but you have time to focus on one person about something that happened years ago now. Fact is you are a bunch of phonies who have found something to gripe about. As for this Burehle, or whatever his name is, he had better pray that what he wishes for Vick doesn't come back to haunt him, that would also apply to those people who like to pretend you are God. charmaine
Hey Buerhle, something bad did happen to him--he served his time. Forgive and forget my man. Zac
So Mr. Buehrle is a dog owner. So am I, but I wouldn't wish an injury to anyone. Besides, unlike most owners of fighting dogs, Mr. Vick has already served time for what he has done.
Despite his shortsighted, thoughtless attempt, Mr. Buehrle is the loser in this article. terry_l
The only reason people give a damn about Vick is because he's the QB of the gold standard franchise!!!!!!!!!!! If he weren't, none of you would give a damn! Fact is, many people believe in an eye for an eye and you reap what you sow! Vick is responsible for his actions and will have to live with the fallout from them! JBinPA- Geez man, jail wasn't bad enough? I love dogs too but someone who advocates for the humanity of a creature and living being should not wish harm on another, regardless of their crimes, its hypocritical. The man did his crimes and i understand that no matter what he will still be evil to a lot of people but its still messed up to wish harm on people when theyre trying to make ammends for their crimes.

Comment removed.- I cant wait til Buehrle tears his UCL playing fetch with his dogs... centard
Did he wish the same for Ben Roethlisberger? Because he allegedly did far worse things -- and to human beings. Guacamole
Don't wish MV injury or the like. Just don't want him in "professional" sports! But, IF YOU CAN PLAY, I'LL LOOK THE OTHER WAY! BEMiller
Hypocrite is a good word for this dud. Here's another: big hypocrite fool.

I guess Buehrle fails to recall that Vick has served time in a jail for his actions. first some "Christian" Media freak wants him executed, now a relatively forgettable baseball player is voodoo wishing on Vick. As a fan of baseball, I had a high amount of respect for Buehrle, this has tarnished my respect of him considerably. ATrucksess
