Report: Dawkins signs with Broncos

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009, 5:22 PM

Brian Dawkins has signed with the Denver Broncos, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our people are working to confirm this report. We want to make clear that the San Francisco Chronicle is the only place we've seen this report.

NFL.com is reporting that the Broncos signed safety Renaldo Hill.

As soon as we get word from The Inquirer or Daily News, you will know.

If it is true, it's safe to say Eagles fans everywhere will be devastated that one of the most beloved players in franchise history will be playing elsewhere in 2009.

It had been expected that the Eagles would re-sign Dawkins before the start of free agency, but it never happened. Today he visited Denver, and the Broncos reportedly never let him leave town.

According to the report, a press conference is scheduled for Saturday to introduce Dawkins.

Stay tuned to philly.com for updates on this breaking story.

The fan backlash on this one will be huge IF IT'S TRUE. If so, how do they not sign him? Banner, Reid and Laurie, nice job guys, we will remember Dawk long after you three fools are gone. Let's see how you boy Eskin tries to spin this, IF IT'S TRUE.

furiocjh, It cuts both ways. The Denver defense is rebuilding so Dawk would've signed there for only one reason $$$$$

As much as I love Dawk, I think it was about time for him to make way for younger players. Veteran experience can only make up for so many lost steps. I hope he has a great last year in Denver, and then comes back to the Birds as a coach.

Joe Banner is the worst thing to happen to sports in Philly PERIOD! Forget whether or not Dawkins can still play to the level we knew - he deserved to finish his career in Philly. But that cheapskate Banner - God forbid he spends an extra few hundred thousand dollars of that $40 mil to keep the heart of the team. I hope he gets hit by that big pile of money he's sitting on. Shame on you! May you live to be old and miserable and penniless in an alley with dogs doing their business on you and your empty miserable wallet.
