Report: Dawkins signs with Broncos

POSTED: Friday, February 27, 2009, 5:22 PM

Brian Dawkins has signed with the Denver Broncos, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our people are working to confirm this report. We want to make clear that the San Francisco Chronicle is the only place we've seen this report.

NFL.com is reporting that the Broncos signed safety Renaldo Hill.

As soon as we get word from The Inquirer or Daily News, you will know.

If it is true, it's safe to say Eagles fans everywhere will be devastated that one of the most beloved players in franchise history will be playing elsewhere in 2009.

It had been expected that the Eagles would re-sign Dawkins before the start of free agency, but it never happened. Today he visited Denver, and the Broncos reportedly never let him leave town.

According to the report, a press conference is scheduled for Saturday to introduce Dawkins.

Stay tuned to philly.com for updates on this breaking story.

$48 million reasons to keep him. Absolute disgrace. The Eagles show again why they are the worst franchise in professional sports.

This is not good. I hope the Eagles have a contingency plan. How about Jack "the Iguana" Ikegwuono the CB with the bad knee? Is he ever going to play? I heard they had high hopes for him.

I'm with JoePAVA in the fact that I love Dawk, and again his coverage skills are gone. I love his leadership but it's time to move on. Now go out and find some talent in free agency. And make a big move in the draft. We are not that far off. I also read that Buck went to Denver today. I will miss him too but injuries ruined his career here. Even when he had the big game against SF he was hurt the next game when we really needed RB help. Go get Ward along with some power.

rockinrob, when the Eagles drafted Jack, they knew he wasn't going to play this year, he would have been a first rounder so we are now going to find out what he's got. Hopefully, it will be a big bargain paying off.

This is not the average player thats reached the end of the line. This is the face of our franchise and a future Hall of Famer. give him a 2 year deal, even if he takes on a limited role, and let him retire an eagle. he's earned that much. Gold Standard, huh?

This is a dark day for the franchise. The front office should be ashamed. For shame Andy and Joe ....

Wow, what a bunch of disgraceful fans. I can understand if you think he's too old to play (even though I think he still has two more good years left in him), but to call him washed up and to say good riddance?? Fair weather fans, indeed. Dawkins will be greatly missed.

As everyone starts to trash the ownership on what they owed Dawk, you have no idea what offers were made. We don't know what Dawk's $$$$ demands were. Denver could have thrown a ton of money that was well above his value. Or the Eagles could have already decided that they are ready to give Mikell the job because he's ready.

I know the guy is getting up there in age, but the Eagles need to do something right for a change. Good for Dawk...he is getting paid and a contract longer than just one year.
