Eagles first-round pick Jeremy Maclin appeared on SportsCenter this morning along with four other NFL rookies.

He was asked what Donovan McNabb has told him in terms of expectations:

"He basically sat down and told me that they're not gonna waste a first-round draft pick for a guy to come in and sit on the bench so obviously he wants me to get out there and contribute right away," Maclin said. "He says get in that playbook and just make plays when the ball comes my way and everything else will take care of itself."

In the next couple of weeks, I'll be taking a look at what reasonable expectations for Maclin should be. We'll study how first-round WR picks have fared over the past 10 years and try to come up with some projected numbers for Maclin, but feel free to make those predictions now if you like.

Some other random thoughts on this Friday morning:

** Andy Reid indicated in a WIP interview earlier this week that the Cardinals didn't really want to deal Anquan Boldin. One of the reasons Reid said the Eagles inquired about the wide receiver but decided against making a move was the price of a new contract. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said on his Twitter (via PFT) that Boldin is not seeking $10 million a year and they've approached the Cardinals with a proposal less than that.

** One interesting storyline to keep an eye on this season will be the production of Maclin vs. Giants first-round pick Hakeem Nicks. ESPN.com's Matt Mosley writes that Nicks' school, North Carolina, ran a similar offense to the Giants. And New York may be looking for an immediate contribution from Nicks. Mosley writes that the G-Men are hoping he can make his way into the starting lineup during training camp.

** And finally, a couple non-football related items. First, I hosted our Phillies-Dodgers chat yesterday and was surprised by the harsh Jimmy Rollins criticism. I understand he's off to a bad start, but did some of us just start watching baseball last season? Do they still play 162 games? Do we remember the days of Juan Bell, Kim Batiste and Steve Jeltz? The guy has won an MVP, Gold Glove and World Series title. He will come out of it and finish the season hitting around .270. Let's all just take a deep breath and relax. (Insert your "Just stick to football" comments now).

** Tremendous job Michael Scott and company. It's tough for great shows to come up with season finales that meet expectations, but that might have been the funniest episode of the year. Please tell me Dwight's best friend Rolf will be a regular character next season. I'll never ask for anything again. I swear.
