Boldin: 'Sometimes change is necessary'

POSTED: Friday, April 17, 2009, 12:58 AM

Anquan Boldin joined Michael Irvin for a radio interview earlier today, discussing his status as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

It was the first time (to our knowledge) that Boldin spoke publicly since Ken Whisenhunt told reporters that the team was willing to listen to trade offers for the wide receiver.

"I’m just at the point now where I just want to get it resolved in whatever manner that is," Boldin said. "For me, it’s been going on too long, and it’s way past due. I think it’s time for the situation to get resolved and then move on from there, whatever that case may be."

Irvin (a favorite of MTC readers) asked Boldin what it would be like to leave Arizona, given that the team was so close to winning a championship last season.

"I think it would hurt, but at the same time, sometimes change is necessary, if that’s the case," he answered.

Over the past couple years, Boldin has been consistent in blaming management, and not his teammates, coaches or the fans in Arizona.

That theme continued during this interview.

"I love all those guys in the locker room, love playing with ‘em," he said. "But like I told you guys, my only problem was with management. Always has been and that’s what it is to this day. I don’t have a problem with anybody in the locker room. I just don’t like how those guys treat different guys in the locker room."

He added that the Cardinals have not made him a long-term offer.

"That was the most frustrating thing for me," he said. "For them to continually come out and say ‘we’re working towards a long-term deal’ when my agent never got a call as far as getting an offer or anything like that."

So the obvious question is: Which teams will aggressively pursue Boldin?

Earlier we referenced a report by Sal Paolantonio in which he said the Eagles, Ravens, Jets and Giants had already shown interest in Boldin.

Since then, Jamison Hensley of The Baltimore Sun has confirmed through a league source that the Ravens have shown interest.

And Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News confirmed that the Jets made a call, but he's hearing that they aren't serious suitors.

More in the morning, including an NFC East quarterback publicly wondering whether his team could use a No. 1 receiver.

And no, it's not Donovan McNabb.

Trade McNabb for two first round picks. With 4 picks, you could trade for Boldin, trade up for OT Smith, TE Pettigrew, AND get one of the top running backs. we need a diet of something other than chucky chicken tossing balls into the dirt. What say we try some wild boar steak?

Hey duchman get a clue. Trade McNabb and who's gonna throw the ball to him you dope. They should give the 2nd first rounder the 3rd and a 5th for Boldin, then trade the other 1st and 3rd for Smith the Bill's OT. Take a running back with the second and were set. Use the rest of the picks for special team players or pick up some secondary help.

boldin plays in warm weather climates. look for him to go to tampa or jacksonville. parcells does not want him in maimi nor does reid in philadelphia. his price is too high for a 29 year old receiver who is just a very good receiver one of many.

Another WR with a "what's in it for me" attitude. Let's trade all of our picks for him.

The Eagles have to step up and get this done. If they are serious about winning now, this is not even a question. I do not care about a first and third round pick. That seems reasonable for a player with his credentials. It would automatically solve our red zone problems and make everyone, including Donovan, Westbrook, and all the other receivers much better. Please Andy, put down the cheesesteak and make this happen!!

Has anyone noticed that when the Giants went to the SB they had Burress and a running game and more and when the Colts went they had Harrison, James and more studs on offense and do I have to mention the Rams with Faulk and all those weapons? What it boils down to is those teams have done everything they could to help their QBs win. Look at the "weapons" DM has had. It's been a one man show since day one for him. If he says he wants help it may actually be that he deserves it! Give him a running game and a #1 receiver and if he still can't get it done complain all you want. BTW, wasn't 4th and 26th under pressure? And how about that beautiful pass in the Card game for a 1st down? 3rd or 4th and 13 wasn't it? Couldn't have been thrown better. What selective memory the "fans" have.

Downside of his career haha...Boldin is a stud, and has at least 3 more good years in him. He's also a hard worker, an amazing athlete, and a team player. That's exactly why Reid won't make a serious play for him; he's not a has been or a never was.

Same story for the past year. Write something when he actually says he wants to go to the Eagles and the Eagles have finalized a trade. They'll probably offer Winston Justice, two 5th rounders, and a conditional 3rd rounder in 2010 because they don't want to overpay.

No way would trade for Boldin. He will sit out until he gets a new contract. He will be a dud as soon as he gets his contract extension

philly10, why do you care if he gets 10million a year. The Eagles are still going to raise ticket prices, still going to charge more for parking regardless if they are 5 million or 25 million under the cap. He is worth it if he improves the team and he would be the best receiver and a huge upgrade in the redzone.

Pittsburgh just released Gary Russell, a good short yardage power back, something the Eagles haven't had for years. Not only that but he meets one of the Eagle's prime requirements, he doesn't have a big salary. Could be a good pickup if there isn't something unusual going on, given that he was released in April, before training camp.

NFL FanHouse has a long article about the chances of Boldin being traded by Arizona, no mention of the eagles being interested, but the Giants were mentioned as needing a replacement for Plaxico.

Flyboy - exactly agree. And trade a 5th and our 2nd to move up in the 2nd to grab Donald Brown.

Yeah. That's all we need another discontented troublemaker who'll be claiming in another two years that he's underpaid a la Sheldon Brown. There is never a point where they don't think they should be paid more than Joe Blow on some other team. It never ends. Give me a seven million dollar signing bonus and I'll be quiet until my contract expires.
