Big plays, field position doom Eagles

POSTED: Sunday, November 8, 2009, 11:55 PM

All season, it had been the Eagles' offense putting points on the board quickly with big play after big play.

Sunday night, it was the Cowboys.

Dallas capitalized on Eagles turnovers and did just enough to beat the Birds, 20-16, and take control of the NFC East.

The Cowboys are now 6-2, while the Eagles fell to 5-3.

Dallas' first touchdown was set up by a Donovan McNabb interception in the first quarter. It appeared that McNabb's pass hit Jeremy Maclin in the helmet, and Dallas came up with the early turnover. The Cowboys had to go just 37 yards as Tashard Choice found the end zone from 2 yards out.

Just before halftime, Romo hit Patrick Crayton for 64 yards, setting up a field goal, which gave Dallas a 10-6 lead.

In the fourth, a McNabb interception and a Maclin facemask gave the Cowboys possession at the Eagles' 42-yard line. Another short field for Romo and company. The Cowboys settled for a field goal on the ensuing drive.

And finally, the game-winner. The Eagles had bottled up Miles Austin for much of the game, but the Cowboys' break-out receiver beat Sheldon Brown for a 49-yard bomb in the fourth, putting Dallas up, 20-13.

The Birds travel to San Diego next week to face the Chargers and are on the road for four of their next five.

They had the chance to capture the city's attention after the Phillies' season ended last week, but instead leave the fans scratching their heads.

I am looking for one of your guys who dubbed himself as "Romo chokes" on the Cowboy chat room. Where is all your trash talk this morning idiot. Come on back and stand up like a man and take it. Or are you one of those classless fans who can only dish it out.

Hey, Cowgirl fans--- seeya in Dallas with Westbrook. Romo wins in October and November-not in December and the playoffs. Look it up.

1st challenge the officials got right. The 2nd one they got wrong and that 2nd challenge hurt! Donovan is bad when under pressure like most QBs (yes, even Brady). He's gotta have better protection. Andy's decision for FG was interesting, but but he obviously thought the defense could get 1 freaking stop, but as usual, we did not get that stop. Instead, the Cowboys got 3 first downs. Is this all Andy's fault? The reality is, we are LUCKY to have both Donovan and Andy (regardless of what WIP and other dogging listeners have to say). Remember Kotite? Remember Hoying and Detmer? Get a clue. E.A.G.L.E.S. EAGLES!

Dallas had some help from the refs but the Eagles hurt themselves from start to finish. Stupid penalties, poor coaching decisions, bad play calling, poor execution. They were too loose and lacked focus. Sheldon Brown & Asanti Samuel hurt us Baaaaad!

I didn't think anyone could be outcoached by Wad Philips but sure enough here comes Tubby. Tubby with no timeouts in the fourth quarter and attempting a useless fieldgoal when we need a touchdown to tie. Oh and those great challenges he always seems to loose.

Lots of blame to go around and a few key rookie mistakes. Andy still hasn't learned how to coach in a close game. When was the time we won a game decided by less than a touchdown? Cowboy fan - we've seen you leading the division half way through before falling apart in December. Enjoy it now.

Back to reality?!?! Reality is Dallas whipped up on Philly... Just because the Saints beat you down already doesnt mean they will do the same thing with thr Boyd.. The Saints are slowly but surely getting exposed every week.. So all you Philly fans, go to bed so you can get up in the morning crying your way to work...

THE Refs killed us on the spotting of the ball, McNabb CLEARLY got the first down, however I don't think reid should've challenged the last play w/11 mins. left, just kick the ball and play defense, as it turned out we lost the challenge and had no chance of stopping the clock when we needed to, the challenge was TOO risky. McCoy dancing around on the 3rd and 1 is what really lead us to having to try and go for it and losing, if he ran straight ahead all of this is mute. We NEED a big back that can run for those tough short yards. I like McCoy, but he made A LOT of BIG COSTLY Mistakes.

I think the Colts, Pats, Steelers, Saints, Vikings, and Broncos are all better teams this year. So, it really doesn't matter what the Cowboys or Eagles do this year.

Oh, and to all you cockroach cowboy fans who now are crowing all of a sudden: 1. The birds played down to your lvl as they do with all inferior teams. 2. We'll own ya when it matters (in December)--bet on it 3. Even if you spuds do make the playoffs, your sis of a QB will lose it for ya in the first round. Sleep on that!

Anyone think AssSamuel is worth the gazillions he makes? My grandmother could tackle better than that softie. Peters/Andrew sisters=losers. Even if we finish with 10 wins (a likelihood, given this division) and win a playoff game or two, does anyone really think this administration (Banner/Reid/McNabb) will take us to the next lvl? Heck no. How many days till spring training?

Good idea kicking a FG down 7 with around 4 minutes left. We have seen Andy make some foolish decisions, but that one ranks right up there.

Why on earth kick a field goal with 5 minutes left and no time outs if you need a touchdown to stay in it?
