Babin: Eagles in my top 3
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Jason Babin sounds like a guy who wants to reunite with his old defensive line coach, Jim Washburn.
During an interview with Mike Florio on Pro Football Talk, Babin said the Eagles are among the teams he's been talking to.
"I would say the Eagles are definitely one of the top three right now that we're discussing situations with," he said. "Obviously, Jim Washburn being the reason, and they're an organization that, honestly, they like to win, and got a guy like Mike Vick..."
Babin had 12.5 sacks in 2010. When asked why he was able to be so successful, Babin did not hesitate.
"Opportunity, and to be able to be coached by a guy like Jim Washburn that understands my particular skill set and really accentuates it," Babin answered.
He did not sound like a return to Tennessee is likely, calling the Titans' offseason philosophy "a little concerning." Babin doesn't think the Titans' new defensive system will cater to his talents.
He said numerous teams have called and expressed interest. Per Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, those teams are the Falcons, Bears, Chiefs and Bills, in addition to the Eagles. Babin told Wyatt he's not looking for Julius Peppers money.
During the PFT interview, he said he wants three things from his new team. The first is a high-powered offense, because that will give him the opportunity to rush the passer. In the past, Babin said, playing with bad offenses, opponents have run the ball a lot and limited his opportunities.
He also wants to play in a system that suits his skills. Babin used the words "attacking" and "wide open."
And finally, an organization that is enthused about winning.
Last week, I explained how Washburn used Babin last year, concluding that a reduced role here should not really be an issue.

The most sacks Edwards ever had in a season was 8.5...Juqua Parker gets that many sacks a year. Not Rich Vos- If Washburn could make Jason Babin that much better, what might he be able to do with Ray Edwards? Nothing against Babin at all. If he wants to be here and Washburn wants him here and he saves us some $$$ that can be used productively to upgrade elsewhere, great. oldfriar
- Marion Barber...great short yardage back...knows the NFC East and in particular the Cowboys offense gianno
if he wants to come back, i'm in. he was a rotational under the clueless mcdermott when he did play he looked like he got pressure. chris clemons was another player who was ran out of town by mcdermott and look what he did for seattle loki0284
I'm not sure DE is that big of a weakness. Plus babin had his chance here. Last season was a fluke. I mean, it takes a D-line coach for this guy to have a good year? Sounds like he just doesn't have enough talent. You either can get to the QB or you can't. MrMiles1
Yeah, aggressively going after the leftovers (something Cap'n Andy knows about!). philharmonic55
Gold standard baby... We're prepared to be aggressive in free agency. Did I read that someplace? Ssteve115
Gold Standard my a** Don Cornelius

Are the Eagles going to have 22 starters? Considering that they didn't resign any of their mediocre players from last year, they may be looking to Trotter to play middle. 4thand10
And on the Mike Mamula name drop, that's a low blow to me. I'm a young black man living in Vegas. You can only imagine some of the stares I got from others in his jersey. Like who the h3ll is that guy? Truth be told, I didn't know much about the kid but the hype surrounding him. LMAO though, good one. papabear702
I think the Eagles get the following by Friday; Kolb traded for DRC, Babin, test out a veteran LB for a year, and sign DJax and Vick(although this might not happen until end of the preseason). This is just the scenario playing out in my head at the moment. Not that it matters. papabear702

Ouch! Joe at the shore
Babin is no better than Mike Mamula in his prime!! FetchDixon- Ouch
Joe at the shore
The Joe "Nickels" banner comments are beyond overplayed. Please make it stop. (And no, I don't like him. I just have a stronger distaste for reading the same thing 1,000 times) IssueMovement- The Commenting Section Is Littered With Bums Who Have Never Stepped On A Field But Have The Nerve To Trash Someone Who's Living There Dream PayBizzy
Joe "Nickels" Banner! Oh wait... someone else said that over a thousand times already. Never mind. philly-born
typical....how can you put the Eagles in the same sentence as the Patriots....Last I look they have a number of Lombardi Trophies in their lobby and we have nothing......They are winners....We have NONE and have an owner who has not made winning it all as "the Only" prioity and is willing to settle for a playoff spot and a coach who has won nothing in his 12 years here....... nuggett

we had him...he was not good enough and we let him go....and he had one "maybe" lucky year......let's not make the same mistake again... nuggett
I'd prefer Hunter Pence NewMick314
We need to spend big money on free agents, because that's what winners do. Washington does it every year, and Carolina is doing it this year and those are the teams we should be like. Crappy teams like the Eagles and Patriots don't signing big name free agents -- that's why they lose every year! typicalphillyfan
WHy is this good? He did nothing for us when he was here two years ago. I am a huge football fan but does a position coach make that much difference? streetjustice- Giving *appropriate* money to a guy whose had 1 good year might be better option than trading for more *potential* as done last year.
Edwards was helped by those 2 fat Williams guys who dominate the center of the D-line. He'd get no such help here with our weak interior d-line and I think that Babin is a better value. FairmountFrank
Lets see: New defensive oordinator, new O-Line coach, no back-up to Vicks wreckless play, rookie punter and kicker, thin at cornerback, safety, and linbacker. Presumed new plays and new ideas to learn from the new coaches with almost no time to learn it. Oh yeah, and our #1 punk*ss son at WR is now going to be a pain in the *ss crying about his contract. I cant wait for dailynews live to have a special to decifer his 2nd grade level twitter posts. Yep all is in order for another great season. outta work- I'm sure this isn't the 1st time Andy's plate has been too full but he finally may have bitten of more than he can chew.
outta work

Eagles, as usual, as all talk and don't really make anything happen...HUGE question marks this year. I see a nice 6-10 season quickly approaching! dgabs
And I really thought the Eagles would go for Ray Edwards - silly me.
No Namdi, no Edwards, just babble and maybe a Babin bsmart

I think he's the best available plus he flourished under Washburn's scheme. With Cole on the other side getting double teamed he should play great with the Eagles. Hope they take the chance and sign him. dapmman
Whoever said "You can't go home again"?
SteveS11
probably the best/most likely signing for the DL this year - hope it works out for the defense - liked Babin in 2009 - not sure why he was released after that season Tom Man
