Andy Reid: 13-year-old giant

CBS showed a clip of Andy Reid as a 13 year old during Sunday's Eagles-Colts broadcast. All I can say is WOW.

Andy Reid: 13-year-old giant

POSTED: Monday, November 8, 2010, 9:36 AM

Andy Reid was the biggest 13 year old in the history of mankind.

I might be a little late on this since I didn't see the broadcast live, but I just watched (in amazement) the clip that CBS showed of Reid participating in the Punt, Pass and Kick competition back in 1971.

It's posted below.

My question is this: Is it really possible that Reid was that much bigger than the rest of the 13 year olds? I remember having big kids in my class in the seventh grade, but nobody was that big.

Friend and loyal blog reader MC has a possible theory: Maybe Reid was the last competitor in his age group, and the kids behind him are from the younger age group.

Thoughts?

Thanks to The 700 Level for the clip.

Earlier post from Monday: Were Eagles fans out of line with their reaction after the Austin Collie hit?

Reid won the competition because he ate the competition.

I thought Andy was the winner of the 15 yr old group. And the other kids were winners in the other age groups. The broadcasters were mistaken in thinking everyone was the same age.

you are an idiot if you can't figure this out. Does the kid wearing #22 look like a 13 year old? Sure andy's big for 13, but the next kid in line is probably 6.

Not to mention, Andy's b-day is in March so he was nearly 14 at the time. Considering he was just a few years away from playing on an NCAA Division I Offensive Line (which likely puts him well into the 99th percentile for size)that looks about right.

Oh that was Andy Reid. I just saw a fat QB throwing the ball into know-mans land and thought it was McNabb, MY BAD.-------JB700LEV

Does anyone under 50 know anything about anything? The format for punt, pass and kick competitions at halftime was for two kids from each age group to compete. There was a line on each hash mark, with one kid from each age group in each line. As a 13 year-old, Andy went last. The kid behind him was the first kid in line, and was 8 years old.

Andy came in 2nd in the competition and afterwards said "I've got to do a better job of putting myself in a position to make plays. I'll get that fixed...".

I heard Andy was disqualified in that competition because he didn't punt or kick...he passed non stop.
