Report: Fitzgerald urges Cardinals to pursue Kolb
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wouldn't mind catching passes from Kevin Kolb next season, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
On ESPN's 12-hour pre-game show (OK, that's an exaggeration, but only slightly), Schefter said the Cardinals' front office has gone to Fitzgerald to get his take on who their next quarterback should be.
And according to the report, Fitzgerald's "first recommendation" was for Arizona to pursue a trade for Kolb.
Fitzgerald is entering the final year of his contract, and Arizona obviously wants to keep him happy.
The report is interesting because it speaks in part to Kolb's reputation around the league, even though he only has seven career starts under his belt.
Schefter said Fitzgerald also mentioned Marc Bulger's name to the Cardinals' brass. And it's worth noting that Donovan McNabb's name was not mentioned in the report.
Just last week in an interview with Dan Patrick, Kolb reiterated that he wants to start somewhere next season.
"I had a meeting with Andy, and told him that I feel like I'm prepared, I'm ready to take that next step. He knows," Kolb said.
Albert Breer of NFL Network wrote last week that he expects there to be plenty of interest in Kolb:
One way for the Seahawks to address their quarterbacking question could be to make another run at Kevin Kolb. And trust this: If Kolb is out there, there will be plenty of suitors for his services, and the Eagles will be able to extract a pretty hefty haul. Remember, the Browns and Seahawks made inquiries last offseason about Kolb but were rebuffed as it became clear the Eagles preference was to deal Donovan McNabb. Cleveland, of course, has insight because of GM Tom Heckert's Philadelphia roots, while Seattle was another West Coast offense team that figured Kolb's transition could be a smooth one. The Browns' interest might be gone because of the emergence of Colt McCoy, but other pursuers that weren't around, like the Cardinals, 49ers and Vikings, could be in the running this time. Makes sense, right, that a 26-year-old quarterback with an Andy Reid pedigree would be in demand? Of course it does. So expect the price to be pretty steep.
Of course, as you know by now, trades will be tricky this offseason until the new CBA is in place. If there's no agreement by the draft in April, suitors for Kolb would not be allowed to include 2011 picks in any potential deals.
And the Eagles could end up deciding to hold on to Kolb, who has one more year remaining on his contract.
SUPER BOWL PICK
Give me the Steelers (+3).
And don't forget that I'll be chatting the game tonight.

- That is pretty high praise for Kevin Kolb. Larry Fitzerald is arguably the best reciever in the NFL. argonne
- This is funny, b/c I was hoping the Eagles would try to trade Kolb for Fitzgerald...I know i'm in a fantasy world for that, but we desperately need a number 1 receiver to compliment our two very good speedy number 2 receivers...
- Dude, you really are mental!

Comment removed.- There is not many impact players on the Cards roster, the only thing I think they'll get in return for Kolb is 2012 picks, which wont help the iggles in 2011.
Comment removed.- Best to keep Kolb and trade the comeback player of the year to the cards for better draft picks or players-Arizona is very liberal as far as guns go, he could probably pack one himself even thou being a felon.

Such hate....sad.....make a trade for defensive end or nose tackle or linebacker......us his status for our benefit.....and let him go and hopefully the haters will go with him......why fools why.....he is not a big deal in your life or mine so relax nuggett
If I was Fitz and just got done catching passes from Derek Anderson and John Skelton I guess Fitz WOULD be like wiff and think Kolb's balls would look ptetty good. Zona was and is my guess anyway. Sign a vet back up to do what Kolb does now [ride the pine], get a few good picks and maybe Kerry Rhodes and put the stake in the Kolb era once and for all. It's been fun pigsticker and take your teeny bopper fan with ya...tick...tick...tick... tpizza- KK will win a SB before mcVick and mcFraud-book that-don't be a jealous hater-Hahahahaha...wolf.
wolf 4 - Hey wolf4 hold your breath until he does, that'll teach you, and shut you up too
charmaine - CHARmaine, don't put all your faith in mcVick,he has a whole summer to try to avoid trouble,,the BIRDS will never win a SB with mcVick,go walk your pit bulls LOL...wolf.
wolf 4
If i was fitz i'd be pursuing another team! i say trade klob and djax straight up for fitzgerald! he doesn't want mcnabb because he knows if the ball hits the ground before you catch it,it's ruled an incomplete pass.kolb will be gone next year and mcnabb will be back with the birds as vicks backup! i say let kolb go and give jeff garcia a call,a real QB! Comment removed.- His color doesn't have jack to do with anything.....the man is weak in his position.......throwing, average, situational awareness...NONE.....ability to get through a series without ending up on his back....yeah right......while some may have skin color issues, aka MV, most sports real sports fans care about wins and we really don't care the color of the hero of the week.

I seen Skelton play 1 game, and he was half decent. Keep in mind it was only 1 game. He was a rookie this year, and needs work, but he's a big guy. As for Kolb, you need to trade him because this is the last year of his contract, and you want to get some value for him while you can, or he'll walk. As far as McNabb, I'm not sure who would want him now. I think it would hurt his pride to be a back up here. I think Shanahan holds some status among his NFL coaching brethern and the fact that McNabb had issues with him, I believe damages McNabb's marketability. watsonmr- "If there's no agreement by the draft in April, suitors for Kolb would not be allowed to include 2011 picks in any potential deals."
I WOULD HOPE SO....boy, there's some logic right there. - this rumor brought to you by Andy Reid and Co....trying to raise Kolb's trade value.
Wow. Think about it. If the Eagles trade Kolb (anywhere) for an impact player of need or a 1st round + a lower round pick and sign McNabb to back up Vick...I think wolf's head would explode (a guy can dream, can't he?) Mabus
No intrest in McNabb- hahahaha! Low throw McBlow dealt another blow!! hititwheretheyaint
Try to get their 6'9" dt and picks and im fine. Sorry kev, I dont care if u were with backups, u couldnt beat stephen mcghee Onlineps2beast- Fitzgerald didn't say that and ain't nobody hating Kolb cause he white,he just ain't that very good dmac6419
- Kolb will win a SUPERBOWL before Vick will.
Yeah right...he only wants Kolb so the Eagles will trade for him.....who would base their numbers on a dude who has only had 7 starts......Kolb won't be able to stay on his feet long enough for Larry to catch any passes. philligrl

Fitzgerald saw Shakes Kolb throwing rubber chickens and got confused. Either that or he's looking for some cheap entertainment for his son's next birthday party. del ravio 100%
if i was arizona and i really wanted kolb, i'd be on the phone right now trying to locate every undrafted free agent thats had at least 2 major knee surgeries. sign as many as i could then bundle them up and trade them for kolb! you know that's an offer the eagles F/O would never refuse! Geno D
that's quite an endorsement from the best wide receiver in the game,,notice he didn't ask for mcFraud,,KK will be in high demand the Cardinals or Vikings are the best fit for KK...wolf. wolf 4- KK throw with forked arm and little wolf speak with head in arse.
Big Chief Strongbow - wiff!!!! Sobered up already? Atta boy! And it's more like "I'll even take Kolb rather than have Anderson back again". I'll definitely take the picks and players we can get for our 4 year project. So much promise, so little result. Fitz is good a catching dying ducks so it may be a good match. And I hear they have super soft benches in Zona. Wouldn't want Kolbby to get a flat arse there after he can't beat out Shelton now would we...for wiff's sake. But no matter what it's still tick...tick...tick...
tpizza - sorry to rain on your parade mcpizza and phillyhood,,KK will win a SB before mcFraud and mcVick, book it..the problem is the it wont be with the Birds,,Fitzgerald is the premiere receiver in the NFL,,10X's better then hotdog shesean jackson,,get used to hearing Kolb to Fitzgerald the best combo in the NFL..book that...wolf.
wolf 4 - Dude...you sound like a wuss
jippy from camden - Oh wiff, so bitter, so heartbroken, so hopeless, so forlorn, so stupid...Yeah, it'll be Kolb to Fitzgerald...for 5 yards. Kolb to Fitzgerald...INTERCEPTED. Kolb to Fitzgerald in triple coverage...incomplete...three and out. Something like that? And the best thing is you promised to go with him, ex-eagle. Hoooooorah! Oooooo baby, gimme those picks and players, sign Bulger and I'm a happy boy. It'll be the best thing Kolb ever did in the 4 years he couldn't win the job...LEAVE!! Frisco a better shot than Minny too. Book it? Yeah, that has worked so often. Your book it = no chance. Hahahaha. Idiot. Aaaaaaah, that felt good. Just like old times.
tpizza - @tpizza-It doesn't sound like he sobered up
Mabus - You may be right. Takes a while to come down from a quart of JB. Or he started back up again trying to drown his upcoming Kolb postpartum depression? It's difficult to tell. I like jippy's comment too. wusswiff? Nice ring to it. Ah well, off to the SB soiree.
tpizza - lets see what you clowns are saying next year,,i thought we were friends mcpizza, stalking is a crime...wolf.
wolf 4 - Friends? Don't pull that cr@p on me wiff. You've tried chumming up to others and it was sickening. Trying it on me is pathetic. I told you I was going to pound you all year. I always keep my word, something you know nothing about. As far as next year, I'll be saying I'm glad we have Vick. You'll be a Zona or 9er fan, ex-eagle.
tpizza
Give me a First, 4th and Calais Campbell fman727
McNabb would NEVER EVER sign on with the Eagles as a backup. First off, his ego wouldn't let him do that, and secondly, he'd never sign for backup money, especially not with the Eagles. His career may end holding a clipboard for some team, but rest assured, that team won't be the Eagles. SteveS11
Did anyone read the actual article on ESPN? There was no ringing endorsement - he just mentioned Kolb's name first, then Mark Bulger...in fact, there is no direct quote from Fitzgerald AT ALL. LMAO So its entirely possible the Cardinals brass asked Fitz who he thought they should go after and he rattled off some names. If he was adamant about them signing Kolb, you can bet there would have been a quote. cancer36
I don't know if Kolb will be a successful starting quarterback in this league or not. However, I can't help but wonder: If he goes somewhere else and turns out to be a good QB, will any of the people who bash him in these comments actually man up and admit they were wrong? Before anyone decides to throw their oh-so-clever "Don't worry, it'll never happen" comment on here, do you think you can come up with something a little more creative? riles1875
It will be continued ironic misery for the Eagle fans as they continue to shoot for the wild card round each year if they lost Kolb. Three years from now, he will be one of the best while the Eagles will be running through a parade of vets and retreads to see who will be the QB for their head coach (Juan Castillo). jtj06- Yeah, he'll be one of the best at throwing accurate passes to the other team....He throws too many picks. He played in less than a 3rd of the games Vick played this year, yet thru more picks than Vick. ewsavage
- the offensive line we had played into vicks hands because of his run ability, that o line couldnt protect kolb being a pocket passer, hence the int's, I wonder how he would do with a good game by our offensive line? oh yeh..the game against Atlanta at home this season...just saying
twyatt11
Ha ha Vick will watch Kolb lead his team to the playoffs from his jail cell. Reid will get fired. In any case Eagles want to keep Kolb because Vick stunk in the last 6 games. Vick has been exposed and the NFL has his number. You can't win the Super Bowl when you have a panic run first style spindly injury prone QB like Vick. bill19666- Still mad huh? LOL
cancer36 - i agree 100% the Front Office may overrule BIG RED after seeing what the Packers did with a home grown QB,save the 20 mil go get some defense help,,,,,cancer36 has an agenda that's sad...wolf.
wolf 4 - The Packer's home grown QB turned out to be a rose, the Eagle's home grown QB turned out to be crabgrass.
tpizza
KK will bring us two first-round picks, a high and a low. Vick would bring us the same two picks, and we'd save $15 to $20 million. Just sayin'. landt
Bye Kolb! Write! cancer36- KK good luck in Arizona. Make sure you leave the knife stuck in your back. delcodanno
It's a bad trade for the Birds..it will mean we are stuck with Vick...he got booed out of Atlanta and he will get booed out of Philly 2ndNlong- Kolb for Darnell Dockett. Make it happen.
Its funny , people dislike Vick because he tortured and killed dogs, was a malcontent with Atlanta, knowingly gave girls herpes, served time in levenworth , involved in a shooting just all around bad guy yet people dislike Kolb just because he is white. Shows how many bigots there are in these blogs.. bill19666- Actually, it shows how many idiots are in these blogs. With that comment, u might be the ring leader... ewsavage
- What people? The people who gave him the most votes of any NFC player for the ProBowl? The people that voted him the Comeback Player of the Year for the Pulse Awards? The people that were chanting his name at the 76ers-Lakers game? Those people?
cancer36 - i didn't hear anyone chanting his name at the Flyers game...the probowl is a joke...he gave the Falcons fans the finger he'll do it to the Eagles fans too-book it...wolf.

Bye Kolb!! Make sure you write! bill and wolf will be anxiously awaiting by the mailbox! cancer36
why cant we just trade vick, hes injury prone and getting up there in age, weve been shaping kevin kolb into a starting quarterback for four years and doesnt he remind you of another backup that just won the superbowl? accurate pocket passer with slight ability to run and hes a young easily a ten year starter given a healthy offensive line, trade vick, possibly to the defense heavy afc, for anything that can give our defense a boost and we could have the potential to go on another 8-10 year run of having a solid team, and potentially a championship winning team twyatt11- You can't trade a guy without a contract, but what about the franchise tag?
I would like the Birds to get something for one of them if the haul is big enough. My gut says Vick has actually peaked and might be a bit more overvalued right now, but I don't think he can be traded, making it a moot point.
Anybody have the facts?
the agenda has been set, there is too much at stake for them to allow vick to leave. somehow the eagles have become the testing ground for advancing agendas. first randall, then rodney, then donovan, now michael... see a pattern? oyoyer

They need to trade Kolb pronto to move up in the draft and get an impact player in the draft Scorcher33
Y'all need to get a grip; nobody can trade a player until there is a new CBA.
So, save your breath and the precious bandwidth! JBinPA
Adam Schefter makes things up; if he doesn't do a certain number of words a day, there's no pay check! JBinPA- I sure as heck don't hate or dislike KEV...The kid was a good soldier and waited for his chance which probably wont be in Philly...Good luck KEV...
fitzgerald obviously has never watched kolb pretend to play, he has a weak arm very little mobility and can't take a hit cardinals best chance would be get rid of anderson keep the young qb and bring in mcnabb that would give them a good chance at the play-offs, kolb would be on injured reserve before the 6th game of the season. only 9
