Back in the 1950s my sister and I would while away an afternoon in Delaware County listening on our Victrola to the 1945 musical, Carousel.

We dreamed of Julie Jordan - the fragile foil to carnival barker Billy Bigelow. We knew every word. I still sing the show tunes.

Residents in the 10 miles around the Limerick Generating Station will hear sirens on Monday, April 2 when Exelon Nuclear conducts a test of its new siren system.

Beginning at 2 p.m., residents will hear two sets of tones lasting three minutes each. All testing will be done by 2:30 p.m.

The Montgomery County Treasurer’s Office has set up a website that allows dog owners to apply, print and pay for their 2012 dog licenses online.

Payment is by credit card or online check. The license will be snail-mailed within three days.

The seventh Annual Revolutionary 5-mile Run will be held at Valley Forge National Historical Park on Sunday, April 22.

The run, which drew 1,625 registrants last year, benefits recreation and preservation initiatives at Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Budding photographers have a chance to learn the tricks of the trade at Central Perkiomen Valley Park on Saturday, April 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The session will be offered by a park ranger at the Old Mill House on Plank Road in Montgomery County.

It’s spring - time for cleaning and inspection of bridges, says PennDOT.

In Montgomery County, this means the Dannehower Bridge which links Norristown and Bridgeport over the Schuylkill will close one southbound lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 29. That is tomorrow, folks.

The Norristown Times Herald reports this morning that four Eisenhower Middle School robotics team members and two adult chaperones will go to the 2012 VEX Robotics World Competition in Anaheim, Calif.

The decision was made at a Norristown Area School Board meeting on Monday night. It came on the heels of strong public sentiment in favor of the trip.

Help is on the way to a country in dire need, thanks to the sale of cupcakes at Saint Basil Academy in Jenkintown.

The school's French Club created an "edible atlas," in honor of International Francophonie Day on March 20. The day celebrates the French-speaking countries of the world.
