Safety warnings mount ahead of evening commute

Here in Conshohocken, the heavy rain and whipping wind appears to have died down.  But anyone planning to leave the office soon might face a long commute.

[Updated, 5:15 p.m. -- Montco Public Safety just reported another multi-vehicle crash, with at least one car overturned at Valley Forge Road and County Line Road in Upper Merion.  Crews are en route to extricate a trapped driver.]

The eastbound Schuylkill Expressway was backed up from Route 202 to West Conshohocken after a multi-vehicle accident around 3:45 p.m.  According to the Navteq real-time traffic map, the string of accidents near Mile Marker 332 were minor and have since been cleared. But the traffic is still sluggish.

A moderate accident was reported on the ramp from the Blue Route (I-476) to the eastbound Schuylkill.  Traffic on the Blue Route appears unaffected.

Surface streets in Lower Merion were backed up after an accident at East Lancaster Avenue and Remington Road.

And anyone driving near Perkiomen Creek in western Montgomery County should be on the lookout for flooding.  Montco Public Safety says the creek is expected to crest at 4.25 feet, near East Greenville.  The flood warning is in place until 9:45 p.m.
