The next best thing to time travel

Embrace a little Montco heritage with upcoming seminars:

On Jan. 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Pottsgrove Manor will host a workshop on historic sewing techniques with “Shifts and Shirts: The Most Basic of Foundations.”  Learn to make your own colonial-style shirts and shifts, the unsung heroes of a proper colonial wardrobe.

On Jan. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the historic Peter Wentz Farmstead will fire up the smokehouse to show guests various methods of keeping and preserving meats.  The focus of the day’s activities will be on pork and pork by-products typically consumed on a Pennsylvania German farm in the 18th and 19th centuries.

On Jan. 27 at 1 p.m., Pennypacker Mills will host "Call to Arms! Emergency militia in Pennsylvania during the Gettysburg Campaign," a gallery talk about the weeks leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg.
