The Memo: June 28, 2011

The Montgomery County news you may have missed for June 28, 2011.

Mornin' folks. Here's a scan of the news:

As the Barnes Museum gets ready for its big move this weekend, the foundation behind it says it's surpassed the $200 million fundraising mark for their new Philadelphia location. [Inquirer]

Two Maryland men were sentenced to 10 to 20 years for their roles in an Upper Gwynedd home invasion last year, but so many questions still linger around this case. What drew a group from suburban D.C. to supposedly rob a guy in MontCo? Why wasn't the victim – a convicted felon out on parole – challenged for the fact that he apparently had a gun in his home to fight back? So far, prosecutors have adopted the same line they did after the arrests last year – tight-lips. [Inquirer]

A Bala Cynwyd lawyer already facing charges in Montgomery County now faces federal counts for allegedly bilking $3 million from a group of investors involved in a Ponzi scheme. [Times-Herald]

A group of Upper Merion neighbors have dubbed a growing mound of dirt and debris at a nearby fill site "Mount Prussia." Besides being an eyesore and a potential safety hazard, they say the unsightly pile would make it difficult for people to sell their homes. The 100-foot-high mound belongs to Valley Forge Inc., which sells mulch, topsoil, crushed stone and recycled concrete among other material.  [Times-Herald]
