Simulated disaster set for Sunday in Conshy

Simulated disaster set for Sunday in Conshy

Motorists may want to avoid Conshohocken from 8 a.m. into the afternoon Sunday, May 6.

That’s because firefighters from across the region will participate in a large-scale fire drill sponsored by Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Task. Note: if you see lots of rescue activity, it's an exercise, not the real thing.

Between 150 and 200 firefighters from 24 departments in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties will respond to a simulated call for assistance from Montgomery County. Once on the scene, they will participate in a series of seven drills.

The most visible will be a pretend small plane crash in a large parking garage off Fayette Street in Conshohocken, not far from the Fayette Street Bridge and the interchange with the Blue Route (I-476) and the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76).

The majority of the drills will occur at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Campus, 1175 Conshohocken Road, Conshohocken. They’ll include a live burn, simulated building explosion, large building search, a mass decontamination and other rescue scenarios.

The regional task force includes Edward J. Atkins for Chester County, Samantha Phillips for Philadelphia, Tom Sullivan for Montgomery County, Edwin Truitt for Delaware County, and John Dougherty Jr. for Bucks County.
