Rx drug take-back event set for 4/28 in Lansdale

Rx drug take-back event set for 4/28 in Lansdale

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency recently announced the fourth nationwide prescription drug "Take-Back" initiative.

It’s designed to prevent increased pill abuse and theft.

As part of this effort, the Lansdale Police Department will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.

Participants can bring the drugs to the Lansdale Borough Hall, 1 Vine Street, on Saturday, April 28,  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., said Police Chief Robert B. McDyre.

The service is free. No questions will be asked.

“With this .. campaign, we are aggressively reaching out to individuals, to encourage them to rid their households of unused prescription drugs that pose a safety hazard and can contribute to prescription drug abuse,” the chief said.

Prescription drug abuse is the nation's fastest-growing drug problem, and take-back events help reduce the chances that the drugs will fall into the wrong hands, McDyre said.
