Roads scholar: The Route 422 near Pottstown edition

With new transportation money a-coming, so will the projects (which is good) and the motorist headaches that come with them (which is not so good). In this edition, we learn about changes to Route 422 near Pottstown due to a bridge beam replacement.

This just in from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation:

King of Prussia – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that one lane will be closed on eastbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724 interchanges in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County and North Coventry Township, Chester County, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Monday (April 7) and lasting until late July, for the placement of new beams at the Norfolk Southern Main Line and Schuylkill River bridges.

Crews will work over the next three months to place new beams at the Armand Hammer Boulevard, Norfolk Southern Main Line and the Schuylkill River bridges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area. The work schedules are weather dependent.

The bridge improvements are part of PennDOT's $73.3 million project to rebuild and improve 1.6 miles of Route 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County and North Coventry Township, Chester County.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County is the general contractor on the project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Construction is scheduled to finish in October 2018.
