Plaque dedication Thursday marks Norristown's loss

Plaque dedication Thursday marks Norristown’s loss

The Montgomery County Hero Cops Program will hold a plaque dedication at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Marshall Street Elementary School, 1525 W. Marshall St., Norristown.

The ceremony will honor Norristown Police Officer Thomas M. Barone who was killed in the line of duty on October 11, 1992.

According to the online Officer Down Memorial Page, Barone was shot and killed while answering a domestic disturbance call. The suspect was sentenced to death in the killing, but died in prison before the sentence could be carried out.

A post on the Officer Down Memorial Page reads as follows:

Tommy,

Your spirit and purpose is engraved in everyone’s heart.

Your sacrifice will never be forgotten, and will always be appreciated.
