Oh, no! It's true; FoodSource to close Bryn Mawr store Oct. 22

POSTED: Friday, September 23, 2011, 5:56 PM

The FoodSource at 663 W. Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, Haverford Township, will close its doors on Oct. 22, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity just confirmed.

"We're closing in a month. It's a heartache, but the economy has taken its toll," said the person, who was not authorized to speak on behalf of the store.

The specialty grocery is popular with well-heeled Main Line consumers. It carries everything from fresh bread to casseroles to chocolate brownies you can really sink your teeth into. People who don't cook can buy prepared dinners, soups, and sandwiches. Those who blanch at the thought of entertaining can hire the Food Source caterer for a nice cold poached salmon with dill.

Rumors have swirled for months that the store was in trouble. For one thing, it is located right next to the construction site at Lancaster Avenue and Penn Street where a new, spiffy Acme is being built.. It will open sometime in 2012. We get it that two gas stations right near one another attract business for both, but we wonder about groceries, particularly the specialty kind.

There is one bright aspect; our source said no one will lose their job. All are being given the chance to work at the chain's other locations.
