Montgomery County rises to No. 27 in kids' health ranking

Montgomery County has again earned a spot on U.S. News and World Report's ranking of the 50 healthiest counties for children -- and this year, Montco jumped eight spots, to No. 27.

The rankings, compiled with help of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, include data about infant deaths, birth weight, teen births, poverty, air quality, health insurance coverage, rates of adult smoking and obesity, among other things.

Montgomery County was the only Pennsylvania county to make the list.  New Jersey blew Pennsylvania out of the water, boasting five counties in the top 25:

  • Hunterdon County, No. 3
  • Somerset County, No. 8
  • Morris County, No. 9
  • Bergen County, No. 10
  • Monmouth County, No. 25
California was the overall leader, with 14 counties in the top 50.
