In a continuing effort to control the whitetail deer population at Lorimer Park, the Montgomery County Commissioners have authorized a controlled bow hunt in the Abington Township park on Monday, Nov. 5.
Buck and antlerless deer will be harvested with conventional archery equipment or crossbows. Lorimer Park and the Pennypack Trail will be closed to all other activities on that date.
Hunters should mail or drop off a 3" x 5" card with their name, address, phone number, e-mail address (if they have one), PA hunting license number, and WMU 5D antlerless tag number (if already purchased), along with a self-addressed stamped business size envelope to: Lorimer Park, 183 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pa. 19006.
Email and internet applications will not be accepted. Only one application per hunter is allowed.
Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30. A lottery will be used to pick 55 qualified hunters. All hunting will be supervised by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
This program was initiated in 2002 and has been successful in reducing the number of deer in the park and surrounding neighborhoods. It is a program of the Montgomery County Parks & Heritage Services Division.
