Here’s an interesting response to our story on tree-planting which ran in the Inquirer today:

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/pennsylvania/20120501_Thousands_of_trees_felled_by_development_will_be_replaced.html

It comes from Heidi L. North-Fehlenberg, a Native American whose name, Aweeyayusooxweexkwe, is translated as Walks with Animals Woman.

“I read with interest today your article about the trees. Thank you!

“I was curious as to whether you have any insight as to how diverse the species selection will be, and if the selections will augment the wildlife needs for food and shelter. I recall attending so many township meetings years ago and trying to steer them away from the usual white pine and oak selection, and towards holly, sassafras and other species that provide better resources for the wildlife that have lost habitat with human encroachment.”

Would anyone involved in the tree-planting effort like to respond?
