If you were figuring on a last boat ride on the Schuykill this weekend, with put-in at Flat Rock Dam, forget it. You are out of luck.

Lower Merion Township just announced that the docks at Flat Rock Park are being temporarily removed, with an eye towards the approaching Hurricane Irene.

"Due to the record rainfall in recent weeks and the chance of additional heavy rainfall this weekend, the township's Parks and Recreation Department will remove the docks at Flat Rock Park in Gladwyne by Friday, August 26th," said a press release from spokeswoman Brenda Viola.

"The township apologizes for any inconvenience; however, the safety of citizens is of primary concern. When weather conditions and the river levels stabilize, the docks will be reinstalled," Viola said in the release.

She said questions may be directed to the Department of Parks and Recreation at 610-645-6220.
