Can you skate? Norristown SONIC wants you!

A new restaurant is looking for a few good workers, at least some of whom can skate, according to a statement that just arrived in our inbox.

SONIC®, America's Drive-In®, will open the first Norristown drive-in early next year. It will be at 2901 Swede Road near Germantown Pike.

The drive-in has 80 to 100 full-time and part-time jobs to fill, including shift leaders, crew members and SONIC's signature skating carhops who deliver orders to customers as they sit in their cars or on the patio.

"SONIC stands for opportunity, which includes career opportunity and the opportunity for our employees to have personal and professional growth," said Don Welsh, franchisee of the Norristown SONIC Drive-In. "We're excited to open the first Norristown SONIC and look forward to hiring great employees for our SONIC team."

Those interested in joining the SONIC Drive-In crew can visit the Sonic Job Center at 2953 Swede Road, Norristown, Pa., 19401. It’s in the Swede Square Shopping Center, next to LA Fitness and Cricket Wireless.

Local SONIC representatives are taking applications from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Applicants can also email Norristown SONIC representatives at sonic.career@gmail.com.

In addition, SONIC will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Swede Square Shopping Center, 2953 Swede Road, Norristown, Pa.

SONIC is known for its specialty menu items and carhop service. The menu includes sandwiches served on thick Texas toast and footlong quarter-pound hot dogs with chili and cheese.

SONIC started out as a hamburger and root-beer stand in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla. SONIC has more than 3,500 drive-ins in 43 states.

big geoff, have you ever said you're from Philadelphia, even though you live in the suburbs? Pot, meet kettle. It is in East Norriton, the Swede/Penn Square section, actually. But, it's mail will go to the Norristown post office and has the same zip code (19401) as the businesses around the courthouse. Check your superiority at the keyboard.
