Michelle Obama Wears Isabel Toledo to the Inaugural Swearing In Ceremony

POSTED: Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 9:18 AM
Michelle Obama is wearing American designer Isabel Toledo this historic morning. The coat suit is very appropriate. We like the pencil skirt and the appropriate day time glitter. (Not too sure about green pumps... but we'll talk about that later.) Obama won rave reviews a few months back in the Isabel Toledo suit she wore. Toledo is Cuban born designer who has managed to bring a kick to women's suiting.

The first lady seems to be favoring coat suits this weekend.  Does that say anything about her gown tonight? We're waiting.

I actually like the dress and thinkn that she looks like a wife that is ready for her husbands big day!!! I am not pleased with te green pumps put she would have look great in a cream pump.

Michelle most likely wears a shoe size 10-12 based on her height. Beleive me when you wear that size you don't wear white beige or cream in shoes unless it's a very strappy heigh heel sandal but no way a pump. Yes glitter can be appropriate for the daytime if done correctly and Michelle has done it. Michelles hair is her own, when women hit our 40's we want a style that works for us is easy to maintain, especially if you have a busy lifestyle. You want to not have to constanly worry how your hair is holding up. The darth vader comment is catty and unwarranted, if you don't like the style then don't everwear your hair like that otherwise don't name call.

I think she looked stunning, though she must have been cold! Metallic fabrics are, and have been for some time, appropriate for day. It all depends upon how you wear them. Didn't love the green Jimmy Choos. Perhaps the tv lighting made them appear different than they did in person. Michelle has style, wears it well, and continues to support "somewhat" lesser-known American designers. Bravo!

LOVE the suit. Great choice! But, I did not like the shoes and gloves. Pop of color is one thing, but it did not work for me. I personally think a fabulous pair Christian Louboutin pearl or caramel slingbacks and matching gloves would have been best!

I agree with the pearl color shoes but they have to be pumps.

About this blog
I’m a Libra so I’m all about pretty things. We of the scales sign know what we like, and our standards are high. So I can’t help but love fashion – one day I will get that Diane von Furstenberg wrap and those Christian Louboutin shoes. And fragrances? My favorite right now is Chanel Mademoiselle. As for makeup, can we say MAC? So let’s thank the Greek goddess of beauty, Aphrodite, that a true fashionista can find everything she needs right here in Philly. I’ve covered fashion here for six years, and I have traveled to New York, Los Angeles and Paris to write about local and national designers. Let me tell you, there is no place where people wear midnight Eagles green or Phillies red with such wild abandon as they do on the west side of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Sound familiar? This blog is for you. Reach Elizabeth at ewellington@phillynews.com.
