First Lady Michelle Obama joins the celebrity bangs brigade

Our first lady, Michelle Obama, stepped into the scene Thursday with a layered bob featuring side-swept bangs.  We give the look an A+.  Obama sported her new hair on her birthday and we are sure this cut is part of her Inaugural Ball style arsenal. That's right first lady, give us your new looks in small doses.

Obama's shiny bob features lots of  layers with bangs cut an an angle. It's a smooth, glossy move. The new hair is pretty similar to 20-year-old model Karlie Kloss' trendy tresses  Vogue Magazine labeled "The cut"  in its January issue. On Thursday,  New York Times writer, Marisa Meltzer, named Kloss' windblown style the cut of the year in the Style section. Bangs have also been a celebrity favorite as of late adorning the foreheads of in-the-spotlight princesses Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton.

Is this simple hairstyle proof the complicated below-the-shoulder layers are over? Are we done with the deep marcels of yesteryear?  Is the shorter swing style a sign that our locks are moving in a minimalist direction - like our clothing?  Only time will tell. In the meantime, do you like our first lady's new look?

About this blog

I’m a Libra so I’m all about pretty things. We of the scales sign know what we like, and our standards are high.

So I can’t help but love fashion – one day I will get that Diane von Furstenberg wrap and those Christian Louboutin shoes.

And fragrances? My favorite right now is Chanel Mademoiselle. As for makeup, can we say MAC?

So let’s thank the Greek goddess of beauty, Aphrodite, that a true fashionista can find everything she needs right here in Philly.

I’ve covered fashion here for six years, and I have traveled to New York, Los Angeles and Paris to write about local and national designers. Let me tell you, there is no place where people wear midnight Eagles green or Phillies red with such wild abandon as they do on the west side of the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Sound familiar? This blog is for you.
