Alexander McQueen Dead from Suicide

Alexander McQueen, London-based fashion designer to the stars, and modern style showman was found dead in his home this morning. The designer was just 40 years old.

His death was an apparent suicide.

His New York - based spokeswoman released this statement:  "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home.  At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family.  

Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."

McQueen is known best for his outlandish clothing that was just as much costume as wearable fashion. Fashionistas loved him for taking basic silhouettes and adding a bit of funky, goth edge to it. McQueen's mother recently died and the two were close. It is not known if his death has anything to do with that loss.
