Diane von Furstenberg is always fashion-forward predictable. She started her Spring 2012 shows with a series of airy, white dresses - some asymmetrical, some long, some short and all lovely. She, too, was sporty chic. She splashed us with color with a shoulder-grazing coral gown and black white and yellow print gauzy pants and maxis. An orange, white criss-cross draped jumpsuit was totally wearable -- I can't wait for these jumpsuits to make their way to the stores for spring. This year, DVF even took a stab at the Chanelesque with a ladies-who-lunch jumpsuit complete with sparkles and walking shorts.
Tracy Reese always puts on a beautiful show and her Spring 2012 collection rocked as expected. But before I wax poetically about the clothes, I must make mention of the celebrity presence as I sat across from Angela Basett, June Ambrose and Iesha Tyler. But enough about the A-list audience. We loved these Spring clothes because of the retro meets now appeal especially the tissue-thin floral jumpsuits and strapless hot pink and turquoise one-piece bathingsuits. If Tracy Reese's stylists have a say, big hair rules! That's cool. Some maxi dresses Reese accessorized with hats and she paired boxy, mid-thigh length safari shorts with glittering, off the shoulder tops, an unexpected, but beautiful twist on Reese's easy to wear theme. She mixed sheer fabrics with light sweaters so this layered collection can be worn from late March through August, and then again in fall. Parasols and matching maxi dresses with lingerie detailing were a hit. Colorful. Classy. Elegant. Sporty. Tracy Reese did it again.
As usual Saks Fifth Avenue favorite, Derek Lam's collection for Spring 2012 was architecturally stunning with sleek silhouettes complimented by an awesome color-palette. Fiery coral lives. A waffle-striped knit sweater and skirt set was glorifyingly slm-fitting. Lam paired white eyelet shifts with smart short-sleeved jackets and he used a disco treatment on a selection of shiny, skirts. The marine-peppermint kaleidoscope print on a sequence of dresses and skirts sang a happy song down the runway. And deep V's added a sexy wow factor on the back of cocktail dresses. Finally a coral jumpsuit was an amazing way to end a deliriously sophisticated spring in to summer grouping. We loved it.
