Timothy Showalter in his Mt. Airy kitchen.

Strand Of Oaks two most recent albums - 2014's HEAL and the brand new Hard Love - have been so effective because they're fraught journeys to self discovery full of sturdy songs and righteous guitar riffage.

But they've also been emotionally gripping intro to the inner life of  Tim Showalter - the Mt. Airy songwriter who is Strand Of Oaks  - because both albums are filled with open hearted  and anything-but-silly love songs to the singer's wife Sue. That's her hand resting on the shoulder of her hirsute hubby on the cover of HEAL, and she's shown up on stage during each of his three night stands at the Boot & Saddle in South Philly the last two Decembers.

The song at the emotional center of Hard Love is "Cry," a tender ballad that's probably the prettiest thing Showalter has ever recorded. This week, a new video was released for the song, starring the leather jacket wearing loving couple in slow motion action. Watch it below.

Strand Of Oaks plays at Free at Noon at the World Cafe Live today, and celbrates Hard Love's release at Union Transfer tonight. Read my interview with Showalter about the new album here.
