So sings Neil Young, rhyming that with "It's for all those creeps, hiding what they do," on "Fork In the Road," the first single and title cut from his new album. Young posted that one online in January, and now he's loosed a second recession blues, called "Johnny Magic." "Then the whole world started running out of money, people losing their jobs," he notes on a tune he premiered the other day on his blog on The Huffington Post. (Yep, you read that right.) In the video for "Johnny Magic," he rides in his car beside his dog Carl on the way to Detroit to promote Fork, due April 7. (That's the fork that Neil came to when he was trying to decide whether to finish the epic decades-in-the-works box set his fans have been waiting for, or just make another new record. Not surprisingly, he followed the sign pointing "forward"). "Fork" is a more impressive tune than "Johnny Magic," which sounds a little too knocked-off, Neil style. Nothing as good on "Johnny" as the best lyrics on "Fork," either, which besides the bailout couplet include this summation of Young's coming-to-terms with releasing his music on the Internet: "Download this/Sounds like sh--." See the "Fork" video here, and read what Neil - a.k.a. Joe the Rock Star - has to say on his Huff Post blog.
