Springsteen Set List, Night Three

Bruce Springsteen came back to the Spectrum on Monday night, kicking off with a cover of The Searchers' "When You Walk In The Room" before reprising Born To Run in its entirety with what seemed like even more foot-to-the-floor energy than last week's first show of his four night stand. During a show that clocked in at just a few ticks under three hours and closed down with a post-"Rosalita" Philly special of The Dovells' "You Can't Sit Down," there were shout-outs to the Main Point in Bryn Mawr as well as deejays David Dye and the late Ed Sciaky, and for the old heads, Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt went toe to toe on a spirited "It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City."

That was followed by two extremely loose impromptu performances of songs that Springsteen and the E Street Band had to figure out how to play before they could go ahead and do so. The first was the rarely performed "I Wanna Marry You," from 1980's The River ("There was a time when we knew how to play this," the Boss said) done on behalf of a guy named Barry Bloom from Old Bridge, N.J. who proposed to his girlfriend Nellie Bogart with a sign that read "Nellie I Wanny Marry You." (She accepted, and they danced a slow dance while Springsteen serenaded them on a somewhat rickety version of the song.) Then, in honor of Nick Ferraro, who was dressed as Elvis Presley in a blue jump suit with a cape, Springsteen did "All Shook Up," before handing the microphone off to Ferraro, who led the band into "Blue Suede Shoes" complete with a "Take it, Bruce!" The show didn't hold together quite as well as the first two nights, but I give it a A+ for goofiness. Here's the set list.
