Spectrum To Come Down on Nov. 23

POSTED: Tuesday, November 9, 2010, 5:50 PM

At long last, the demolition of The Spectrum will ensue at 12 noon on Nov. 23, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. That's more than a year after Pearl Jam closed the building out with a marathon show two Halloweens ago. Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent and Julius Erving will be there to bear witness. Here's Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band's "Wrecking Ball," written for the since imploded Giants Stadium but performed at the Spectrum at the start of his last stand in October 2009.

Can Ed Snider and the Comcast Executive Board have a meeting inside? After the financial rape of the region for the past decade, they should be demolished also.

Cannot wait to see the Philly Live project the way Mr. Snider promised it. The same promise we got when the WF Center was first being built and we were told it would be connected with The Spectrum and shops and restaurants would be within that connector. Ooops...

Why don't they just knock off the Philly Live nonsense and put what belongs on the site..another casino! Plenty of parking, no neighbors to bother, and crowds of fans leaving sports events or concerts who may have some extra dough to spend!

Taranis: You obviously don't know what you're talking about - saying that Ed Snider financially raped the region. The exact opposite is true. They built the orginal spectrum and also the new area (now called Wells Fargo Center) without getting funds from the state or the city. If there is any sports organization in this city who has raped the region it is the Eagles. The got the state to pay 1/3, the city to pay 1/3 and the NFL lent them the other 1/3. Yet the city does not get the parking revenue, does not get concession revenue and does not get a percentage of the ticket revenue and did not get any of the revenue from the seat licenses. To top it off Laurie, Banner and Reid have no respect for the media or the fans and treat the fans as if they are beneath them.

    RIP The Spectrum.

Although, is there any truth to the rumor that Philly Live has been scaled back yet again and will just be a Rita's Water Ice and a shoeshine stand?

All the haters can say whay they want, but this brings back all the good memories from my youth. Great sporting events and unbelieveable concert events. The place had character and a great feel....always felt like home. It was "America's Showplace." Will always remember Lou Nolan saying that before Flyers' games. Gonna miss the place.
