Hubert Sumlin, the Chicago blues great whose stinging guitar was a crucial element of Howlin' Wolf's sound, died Sunday in Wayne, N.J. at age 80. His obituary from the Chicago Sun-Times is here.  Sumlin (that's him on the left, with Wolf) comes in 43rd in Rolling Stone's current issue list of the greatest guitarists who ever lived. He outlived Wolf by almost 40 years and remained an active presence almost to his death. Below, he plays "Smokestack Lightning" - currently heard in a Viagra ad - with Wolf in London in 1964.
