Ooh Poo Pah Doo

I saw Trombone Shorty at the World Cafe Live on New Year's Eve. Jessie Hill, who had a top five R & B hit with "Ooh Poo Pah Doo," produced by Allen Toussaint, in 1960, was Shorty's grandfather. Hill died in 1996. The Shorty review will be in Sunday's Inquirer. Shorty's older brother James Andrews does his own fairly fabulous version of his grandfather's classic at the House of Blues in New Orleans here. My New Year's resolution for 2011: Do more "Ooh Poo Pah Do."
