On the road to SXSW

How insanely too big for its own good has the South by Southwest Music & Media Conference - that's the official name - gotten in its 26th year? So too-big that on Thursday night, Lil Wayne and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band are both playing at the same time.
Along with the rest of the music media, and the music industry, I'm headed there tomorrow, just as the SXSW Film and Interactive festivals are winding down, and SXSW music, which starts in earnest on Wednesday, is gearing up.
Tons of bands, many from Philadelphia or with local connections, will be in Austin this year: Chiddy Bang, Grandchildren, Purling Hiss, Spank Rock, Ryat, Free Energy, Strand Of Oaks, Santigold and Meek Mill among them.
Lots of name brand acts are SXSWing, too, like Jack White (pictured), Fiona Apple, Norah Jones, Justin Townes Earle, 50 Cent (yes, really) and Andrew Bird. I'm working up a short list with names like Kendrick Lamar, the Alabama Shakes, Ivan and Alyosha, Now, Now, 2:54 and Triptides on it, but the band I'm most looking forward to seeing in Texas this week is one I haven't heard of yet.
You can keep up with me at SXSW by following this blog, looking on on the Inquirer PopLife page on Facebook or checking in on Twitter and / or Instagram @delucadan. I've got an iPhone, and I know how to use it.
