Made In America day two kicks off with Fitz & the Tantrums

The second day of the second year of the Budweiser Made in America fest got started, just as it had a day before, 10 minutes ahead of schedule on the Rocky Stage at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps.

The Sunday afternoon starter act was Fitz & the Tantrums, the Los Angeles sextet co-fronted by singers Mike Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs. Excellent choice: the band's transition from  retro-soul band to a more pure pop act is somewhat rocky on their new More Than Just A Dream album, but the aerobically charged-up approach was ideally suited to shaking the second-day crowd awake.

"Don't they know, this building is about to blow?" Fitzpatrick and Scaggs sang in unison on the opening "Spark."  There was no roof to blow off at Made in America, but the band's new '80s-derived moves did the trick of getting early afternoon fans to wave their Buds in the air.

"Thank you for coming early and braving the sunshine with us," Fitzpatrick said as the blacktop on Eakins Oval warmed up. "It's about to get a lot hotter in here." And with that, Made in America Day Two was underway.
