The lineup for the the 50th Philadelphia Folk Festival just got significantly upgraded, with the addition of the Levon Helm Band and New Orleans party starter Trombone Shorty (that's him with horn), along with stellar Americana songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield and formidable folkies David Wax Museum. Zydeco squeezer Terrance Simien, bluegrass stalwarts Dry Branch Fire Squad and local luminaries Jim Boggia and Suzie Brown (who is profiled in today's Inquirer) have also been added.

Those names are in addition to previously announced acts such as the David Bromberg Big Band, Arlo Guthrie, Justin Townes Earle, the Kennedys, the Campbell Brothers, Amanda Shires, Tom Rush, Caitlin Rose and Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, among others. The Folk Fest celebrates its diamond anniversary at the Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township near Schwenksville from August 18-21. More info here. Below, Levon does "Tennessee Jed."
