Canadian songwriter Kathleen Edwards played the World Cafe Live on Wednesday night, in support of her new album Voyageur, which was produced by her boyfriend, Justin Vernon, whose band Bon Iver is nominated for a bunch of Grammys this month.

And lo and behold, Vernon showed up last night wth Edwards, and played on several songs throughout her set. I know this not because I was there, sadly, but because Twitter told me about it. There are photos taken by members of the Philadelphia band Work Drugs over at the WXPN site The Key. Below is a video clip of Vernon playing some fiery lead guitar as Edwards sang "12 Bellevue," and coming off as nothing like the gauzy, diaphanous presence you might expect him to. Steve Klinge's interview with Edwards from last Friday's Inquirer is here.
