Jay-Z to headline and program 'Made In America' festival on Ben Franklin Parkway on Labor Day weekend
There's a press conference scheduled for 10:30 Monday morning on the Art Museum steps with a couple of powerful guys: Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and hip-hop kingpin Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter. Here's the announcement they're going to make: On September 1st and 2nd, Jay-Z will headline and curate the Budweiser "Made In America" festival on Philadelphia, a three-stage event promoted by Live Nation that promises to bring a wide range of acts to the Ben Franklin Parkwey.

"Philadelphia is a great music town, everybody knows that," said Mayor Nutter as he introduced Jay-Z , who took the the stage after representatives from The United Way.
Jay Z appeared on stage dressed in a white tee shirt and suit jacket with Philadelphia rapper Freeway.
He praised Budweiser for their work with the long running Budweiser Superfest, and for giving soul and R&B artists exposure.
"Everybody knows my love affair with Philly from the great artists I've signed from here," said Jay-Z, referring to Freeway.
"Whenever I enter into a project I try to hit some touch points," he continued. "Is it great? Is it going to push the culture forward?"
At that point, a voice in the crowd shouted, "You're the best, Hov!"
"I agree," he replied on cue.
"It's going to be a great day in Philly," he said in conclusion. "And that's pretty much a spiel."
With an American flag draped behind him, he didn't answer the hollered out question "Why Philly, Jay?" and then took to the crowd to press the flesh with his fans.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 23rd. There will be a limited number of $99 two-packs available.
The festival will take place on three stages on the Parkway and will feature Jay-Z headlining a bill that will include up to 30 acts, none of whom have been announced yet.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to United way.

Will Made In America draw numbers of that size to downtown Phildelphia, on the same weekend that Bruce Springsteen is playing Citizens Bank Park? Not likely, since it's not a free event. Ticket will go on sale on May 23 on ticketmaster.com and livenation.com.
There's no list of acts available yet, and they're not expected to be announced tomorrow. Made In America will be a genre-spanning festival, though, and the most widely-respected rapper and mover-and-shaker in the industry - not to mention the husband of Beyonce Knowles - ought to be able to book whomever he likes.
