Trombone Shorty fronted his first band in New Orleans when he was 6. Six! Today he turns 25. That's him, playing the trumpet, on Friday at the World Cafe Live. (Somehow "Trumpet Shorty" doesn't have the same ring to it.) My review is in the Sunday Inquirer and here. He didn't play "St. James Infirmary," though the drunken fellows behind me repeatedly made it clear how much they wanted him to.
