Firefly festival lineup finally announced, Kings of Leon, The Killers and mystery act are headliners

Is Paul McCartney coming to Delaware, or not?

So is Paul McCartney playing the Firefly Festival, or isn't he? Last month, organizers promised a lineup announcement was just around the corner for the Delaware mega-music festival which takes place in Dover from June 18 to 21 this year.

When it didn't come as quckly as planned, a Twitter account called @EDMsecrets leaked a mighty official looking poster that had McCartney, Kings of Leon and The Killers listed as headliners, with Morrissey, Snoop Dogg and Foster the People listed on the line below.

Now, this afternoon, the lineup has officially been announced, and all those names are on it except McCartney's, with a string of question marks occupying the place his name was. The rest of the official poster also bears a strong likeness to the leaked bootleg one: Sturgill Simpson, Modest Mouse, DJ Mustard, Spoon, Charli XCX, and Matt & Kim are all on there.

Which leads us to wonder if Sir Paul - so visible on TV these last couple of weeks on the Grammys with his new buddies Kanye West and Rihanna as well as the Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary broadcast - is likely to play the fest but the Firefly organizers just aren't allowed to announce it yet, or if he was supposed ot play it, but the deal fell through. Or maybe the cute Beatle never was actually on the tentative schedule, and @EDMSecrets just made that up.

In any case, we're left with two solid but hardly inspiring headliners, one of which, The Killers, have closed out a night at Firefly before (in 2012) and another, in Kings of Leon, who were the last act on at Made in America in 2014. Hopefully, Macca is still to come aboard, or if not him, maybe his pal Kanye? Or maybe all those ?????'s mean Question Mark & the Mysterians are playing. Or could it be Questlove? Or maybe A Tribe Called Quest?

Other acts of note on the bill: "Take Me To Church" Irish singer Hozier, nuevo trip-hop duo Sylvan Esso, heavy hitting hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, up and coming guitar hero Benjamin Booker and a host of Philadelphjia copnnected acts, including hip-pop duo Chiddy Bang, 'nu-hula' popsters Vacationer, DJ-producer RJD2 and power-pop band Cheerleader.

Pre-sale four day passes are sold out. Watch this space for more ticket information.
