Way back before there was the iPod shuffle, there was "The Spectacular Spinning Songbook," the wheel of musical fortune that Elvis Costello toured with in 1986, with a tour stop at the Tower Theatre. Twenty five years later, the 40 song gimmick will return. Costello fans will get to give it a spin, and then, if they choose, take their place in a go-go dancing cage, when the always prolific British songsmith brings his Revolver tour back to the Tower on May 19. (Spinning wheels keep turning: In honor of Blood, Sweat & Tears, Yo La Tengo is currently touring on its own album oriented "Spinning Wheel" tour.) He'll be playing with Imposters - Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher. It's hard to keep up with Costello's output, but the last two albums, 2009's Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, and last year's National Ransom find him working at a high level. Tickets go on sale Saturday. Below, "New Amsterdam" and "You've Got To Hide You Love Away" from a Spinning show in Liverpool in 1986.
