Big Night Out: Flaming Lips & Tame Impala, Wesley Stace, Bill Callahan, Blondie & X all in town tonight

I've had this date circled for weeks.

Where to go, what to do? The pop music cup runneth over this Thursday evening.

The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala are on an exquisite psych-rock double bill at the Festival Pier. Back when that show was announced, it seemed a bit late in the season for an outdoor gig, but the weather gods are on Wayne Coyne's side, apparently.Tickets on sale here.

At the World Cafe Live, meantime, Wesley Stace puts his John Wesley Harding stage sobriquet behind him once and for all to perform the songs from his new album Self-Titled under the the name he was given at birth: Wesley Stace. Back across the river in Center City, the acoustic troubadour Bill Callahan, formerly known as Smog and now known as Bill Callahan, plays the First Unitarian Church. He's just released his 18th album, Dream River.  Guitarist and folk-art creator Lonnie Holley opens. Ducats here.

Meantime, up in Glenside, two punk-New Wave era originals team up at the Keswick Theater. Deborah Harry's Blondie headline, and still potent Los Angeles punks X are on the undercard. Details here.
