Alabama Shakes at the World Cafe, and on the radio

The Alabama Shakes were one of the big winners of the buzz competition at this year's South by Southwest Music Festival. My Austin interview with Brittany Howard of the rising soul-rock band is in the A & E section of the Sunday Inquirer and here.

The Shakes debut album, Boys & Girls, comes out on Tuesday. Tonight, the traveling quintet play the World Cafe Live. It's sold-out, but will be broadcast live on WXPN at 88.5 FM and online. A video of the Shakes playing at Stubbs Bar-B-Cue in Austin, courtesy of NPR Music, is below, and below that is a clip of that band doing Boys & Girls' "You Ain't Alone," complete with James Carr and Solomon Burke references, at a show last summer. The picture of the Shakes to the left was taken by Conor Kelley at an Austin City Limits taping during SXSW.

UPDATE: Here's the XPN stream of the show from Monday night.
