Walker in Flyers' lineup; Betts goes to Montreal
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
Defenseman Matt Walker cleared waivers and returned to the Flyers, and Blair Betts was picked up by Montreal on Wednesday.
All indications point to Walker starting in Thursday's opener in Boston and being paired with Braydon Coburn.
Oskars Bartulis also cleared waivers.
Here are the projected lines and pairings for the opener:
* Briere centering Voracek and Simmonds.
* Giroux centering Jagr and JVR.
* Couturier centering Read and Hartnell.
* Talbot centering Rinaldo and Nodl.
D pairings: Pronger-Carle; Timonen-Mez; Coby-Walker.
Walker gives the Flyers physicality and a much-needed RH shot on D.
The Flyers will start the season about $65,000 under the cap, but they could get more relief if Ian Laperriere ($1.16 million cap hit) is placed on the long-term injured list.
With Betts going to Montreal, the Flyers have 49 players on their 50-man contract limit. Couturier will be the 50th player when/if he plays his 11th game.

Fellow Flyer fans, get ready, because we might be upon a year in which our beloved team will resemble the Eagles.I am afraid they like the Eagles might have done a little to much revamping.Lord knows I hope not.I do know the defense, left intact will keep them close in most games.Let us all hope for a good year.If not a decent year.
