Voracek, Kubina out; Jagr, Manning in

POSTED: Thursday, March 8, 2012, 11:42 AM

UPDATE: Defenseman Pavel Kubina (upper-body injury) is sidelined and will be replaced by rookie Brandon Manning. The Flyers are missing four regular D-men: Kubina, Kimmo Timonen, Chris Pronger and Andrej Meszaros.

Winger Jaromir Jagr, who injured his hip in Tuesday’s game, was in Thursday's lineup and placed on the fourth line against visiting Florida.

Jagr, 40, said he “felt better than I thought I would," after the morning skate.

Winger Jakub Voracek did not take part in the morning skate, and will miss the game, GM Paul Holmgren said.

Voracek was checked in the face and crashed to the ice in Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Detroit.

Harry Z, Manning recalled. The Flyers, who have won three straight, recalled forward Harry Zolnierczyk and 21-year-old defenseman Brandon Manning from the Phantoms. Manning, who was an emergency call-up, is insurance in case one of the six defensemen who played Tuesday cannot go against Florida.

"I think it was an opportunity to keep playing," Zolnierczyk said of his demotion. "Just kind of worked on some things down there and built some confidence. I guess ultimately they'd bring me back here when they were ready. Hopefully, I'll get a chance and make it from there."

Zolnierczyk gave a glowing report on Manning.

"He stood out pretty quickly for us as one of our better D," Zolnierczyk said. "He's reliable in all positions. It wasn't too long before he was the quarterback of the power play unit, a big part of penalty killing and a big player 5-on-5. He's definitely built for the pro game and he'll do well when he gets his chance here."

Manning, who had groin surgery in April and hip surgery before the season, didn't expect the promotion.

"Anytime it's your first call-up, you're going to be surprised," Manning said. "I know the backend's been hurting for awhile, so it was a possibility and I've been doing what I can do to get ready and hopefully get the call."

In 32 games with the Phantoms, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Manning had four goals, five assists and 75 penalty minutes. He signed with the Flyers as a free agent on Nov. 23, 2010.

Good Job Shanahan You Clown! No suspension not even a warning....its not like this was the first time that Kronwall took somebody's head off! ( What A Joke !!! ) Leagur needs to stop crying about head shots! If its okay to do it to Jake then it should be free season on every...including Cindy Crosby!

I'm not an expert on hitting, but everything I hear from the experts is that this was a legal hit. I was actually reading the Detroit papers the next day to see what they would say. To my surprise, they have a term for this in Detroit saying "you got Kronwalled." Supposedly, this guy has never been fined and is one of the best in the leauge at producing hard legal hits. The Flyers could use a guy like this. Just sharing the information I learned, no need to jump on the messenger.

Just to stir the pot, Shannahan was a Red Wing, coincidence?
But in reality that was a clean hit, Jake just had his head down which we all know is the first rule in Hockey (see Stevens on Lindros). Jake made the mistake and fell for Kronwall's fake that he was moving back into the neutral zone. As much as it sucks, nothing wrong with it.

Yup. Clean hit. And there's no coincidence that Shanny was a Red Wing. Every player in the game (Flyers included), coaches and the league agreed that it was clean. Not sure why people are still moaning about it and comparing it to Rinaldo's hit on Crosby. Wasn't the same. No one is out to get the Flyers. Stop the whining!

I can't understand how respected players like Tocchet, Jonesey, and Milibery (who beats up 12 year olds) could watch that hit and say it's part of hockey. Watch Rinaldo hit. RARELY goes to the head and rarely hits a guy "by accident" in the head.

Unfortunately it was a clean hit. He had the puck and got caught with his head down. I'm guessing he'll be better about keeping his head up from now on.

Really guys! It's hockey.....the pussifying of the sport has gone far enough....it was a clean hit. It was Voracek's fault and he admitted as much. He won't make that mistake again....keep your head up or you get hit....otherwise play/watch tennis....maybe this sport isn't for you

don't worry ohokay, kaleigh9's comment belies her phonetic spelling skills. PS Kronwall is a total punk who only goes for the head.

....and if anything, we should be more mad at the lack of response. Schenn tried I guess, but should have just dropped the gloves and started pounding. Instead, we take 2 dumb minors after the fack and never really got them back physically speaking.

that's what you get when you blow up a team and rebuild it with a bunch of strangers and old men. Schenn, right, what a bruiser.

Shanahan is a Detroit guy....so I never really expected anything. But I wonder what the Detroit guys would be writing if Rinaldo Ran over Zetterberg or Datsyk exactly the same way... that Jake got his head taken off. For Detroit, that would mean their top Power play guy gone, along with their play-off hopes! ( And do you think Shanahan would say, No problem... it was a legal hit! Bull...t !
