No Cup, just a Flyers quiz

POSTED: Thursday, May 19, 2011, 1:15 AM

Bored watching San Jose’s Ben Eager _ the former Flyer whose penchant for dumb penalties makes Dan Carcillo look like a Lady Byng candidate _ embarrass himself in the Stanley Cup playoffs?

Well, below is a Flyers quiz to give you a quick hockey fix.

If you get at least nine correct answers, you can pretend you’re skating with the Cup over your head.

Seven or eight correct responses make you a true fan; if you get at least six right, we’ll generously give you a passing grade.

Five or fewer and you must start the season with Adirondack.

    Here goes:

  1. Most fans know that James van Riemsdyk led the Flyers in shots (70) in this year’s playoffs. Who was second on the Flyers?
  2. In two of the Flyers’ four playoff victories this season, the winning goals were scored by players who could be free agents on July 1. Name them.
  3. Who had more goals in this year’s playoffs _ Carcillo or Mike Richards?
  4. True or False. The Flyers last won the Cup in 1976.
  5. Who led the Flyers in points in this year’s playoffs?
  6. True or False. All three Flyers goalies had goals-against averages over 3.00 in this year’s playoffs.
  7. In 1976, he set a Flyers record by scoring goals in 10 straight playoff games. Name him.
  8. Can you name the two Flyers who each had seven goals in this year’s playoffs?
  9. Two former Flyers share the club record with 53 playoff goals. Name at least one of them.
  10. Who was the winning goalie when the Flyers defeated Buffalo in Game 7 of the conference quarterfinals this year?

Answers: 1. Danny Briere, with 47 shots. 2. Ville Leino and Nik Zherdev. 3. Carcillo, who had two goals _ one more than Richards. 4. False. The Flyers’ last Cup was in 1975. They were the runner-ups in 1976, losing to Montreal. 5. Claude Giroux, who had 12. 6. True. 7. Reggie “The Rifle” Leach. 8. JVR and Briere. 9. Rick MacLeish and Bill Barber.  10. Brian Boucher.

Sorry guys I wanted to get both scorers in question nine, so I didn't deserve the 10 out of 10. I was a huge Bobby Clarke fan growing up and his perfection and tenacity to play the game mattered to me. Jordan Katinsky I always thought you were smart when I read your previous posts, I take that back. Thanks potus for noticing my error, but 9/10 is good enough. I am still waiting for the FLYER brass to sign that number one goalie in the off season. GO FLYERS!!!

The article opens up in case you are bored watching the West. Actually, I am not. It has been really great hockey with very skilled players. No wonder Tim Thomas looks like the second coming - unlike the East these guys um, actually shoot in the upper corners and not right at the goalie. A few "tweaks", as Snider said may get us back up there with Boston, but it is clear we are not at the level of the Sharks, Wings, Nucks

And today is May 19th. The 37th Anniversary of the Flyers 1st Stanley Cup Victory. A 1-0 game 6 over Boston.
Happy Anniversary Boys. Now THAT was a team...

Another shot at Richards - this is getting ridiculous and quite frustrating. How about asking who had as many points as the "great" JVR and the same amount goals Giroux in playoffs. The answer of course is Richards. Not to mention racking up 23 playoff points last year and single-handedly altering the Boston and Montreal series. But he sucks now right? Get rid of the C! Whatever...media idiots (and some commenters).

Hey Flash, give yourself a 10, you only had to name 1 of the 2 on #9.

Nikolay Zherdev threatened his wife and hit her car with a metal pole and faces criminal charges in Russia. Waiting for the column that blames Richards for this.

The Philadelphia hockey "media" is a joke. Now a quiz with a veiled shot at Richards, after a column consisting solely of tweets from readers. The amazing thing isn't that Richards won't talk to you idiots, it's that anyone else will

Challenger are you kidding? LeClair was as good as Carter in the post season when it came to goal scoring. Not!

haha...question 3. Nice shot at Richards. I'm not exactly his biggest supporter, but I guess it's safe to say that you don't have a fathead of him hanging up at home. Guess he won't be answering any of your questions next year, either.

I guess I am a fan, I got 9 out of ten. Number 9, I thought Barber and John Leclair had that record. Here`s a question: Will the FLYERS finally sign or trade for a number one legitimate goalie to tend the net for the 2011-12 season..... GO FLYERS!!!
