Mez appears in; Rinaldo says Flyers owe G
Sam Carchidi, Inquirer Staff Writer
With his team facing elimination, it appears defenseman Andrej Meszaros will return to the Flyers' lineup Tuesday night against visiting New Jersey.
Meszaros hasn't played since March 1. He had back surgery on March 21.
The Flyers will be without the suspended star Claude Giroux, who leads the NHL with 17 playoff points.
"G's been our best player all year. We owe him one," winger Zac Rinaldo said. "This one is for him."
With Giroux out of the lineup, Rinaldo is expected to make his series debut.
Giroux said he was surprised by the one-game suspension, "but it is what it is," he said.

After practice, defenseman Kimmo Timonen wore a shirt that said, "Play Angry."
Said coach Peter Laviolette: "I don't think we're going to hang Kimmo's shirt behind the bench and rally behind that."
But they will try to rally around Giroux's absence.

Kimmo's Shirt said "PLAY ANGERY" I agree that some angery would help them out plususe the fact that Giroux was suspended while others get away with far worse hits and more dangerous head shots! Zack is correct they owe a win tonight to Giroux if theycan get it together with Andrej Meszaros playing and the fact that Zubrus was laughing at them after the acting like he was injuried by Giroux they should just stay home tonight! LETS GO FLYERS!!! srcdaddy1216
Strange as it is, the Flyers seemed to be playing without much emotion. Maybe this incident will give them that much needed emotion to win. One game at a time. NYluvsPhylers
Flyers owe Bobby Clarke for years of mismanagement and no Cups, and Holmgrem is following in his lofty footsteps. WhatWhiners

Oh Rinaldo's playing! We will win for sure. His first shift he will probably take a stupid penalty. Sorry...GO FLYERS! chase26TJ

G2...dont answer that jo. he just sits ay home collecting unemployment and wishing he could kiss Cyndi drenner
tonight they will come out with emotion, but bryz will blow it. book it. sore richard
Bob Clarke was GM for a bunch of years and never thought having a great goalie was important so Big E took the blame for not delivering the Cup. All you have to look at is the video of Hextall waving at Claude Lemieux's slapshot from the blue line in Game 5 vs Devils in 1995 or Steve Yzerman scoring on Hexy from outside the blue line in the 1997 Finals. Hopefully Bob Clarke stays put in Sarasota and offers Homer no tips on how to build a team. BobbyD- youre an idiot ...

Holmgren's gotten the Flyers, too
young and too small. olneyboy
srcdaddy please STFU with the made-up story about Zubrus laughing. They took him straight to the training room, still woozy. Stop it, you're a moron. 3cups8yrs
The Flyers don't need to play angry, they don't need to show more emotion. They need to play as a TEAM, a single unit with a single purpose. Too often in this series I see the Flyers either dump-and-chase into the offensive zone (and in response, the Devils just kick it back out), or they go cross-ice with a pass and one forward gains the zone -- where he is promptly ejected by two or more Devils. It's much the same on defense, where the Devils seem to be playing five-on-one hockey in the Flyers' zone. The Flyers are playing the last series against the current team; against the Penguins it was more important to isolate their superstars, and "out-Penguin" the Penguins. The Devils, lacking such superstars, play more of a team game at both ends of the ice, and they're running circles around the Flyers.
The Flyers need to slow the game down and coordinate their offensive and defensive zone presence; and they need to press the Devils to the outside, and keep them against the boards (which is ironically exactly what the Devils have been doing to the Flyers).
This series looks exactly like the Flyers-Bruins series of 2011 -- the Flyers look old and slow, and they look as though it's "every man for himself" every shift on the ice, while the Bruins (and now the Devils) look like a well-oiled machine. critias
